Leaf Raking Event     November 7, 2009
A leaf-raking event, coordinated by the Missional Outreach team, was held on November 7. There were 22 TSF folks, including a number of kids, who helped do the raking and six others who delivered and served lunch, or came later to help clean up. Several widows or elderly ladies at Lakeside Trailer park were helped along with another widow in a different trailer park.

A note in the Herald Mail “mail call” section says it all:
"I would like to thank Tri-State Fellowship Church on Cearfoss Pike for all the wonderful adults and children who came to my home in Lakeside and raked all the leaves. I’m a widow who has serious back problems, among other problems, and can’t do the outside work anymore, and am on a limited income. They were guardian angels. I don’t know what I would have done without them. Again, I want to thank them so very much. They are great people."

The Great Pumpkin Siege Festival     October 10, 2009
Approximately 600 people enjoyed Tri-State Fellowship’s first ever “Great Pumpkin Siege Festival” held on October 10. It was a cold and windy day, but God answered our specific prayers for no rain. Over 300 people made their way through the corn maze which was open most of the day. Other festivities included a car/truck/motorcycle show (with 66 entries), stunt motorcyclists, a live band, children’s games, and Uno’s serving food on the grounds all day.

The highlight of the day, however, was the pumpkin chucking competition with four trebuchets that were entered. You can see some of the action and check out what the media had to say by going to these links:

We’re very grateful to the TSF students and adult volunteers who put hard work into this day – from running the car show, to running the corn maze and the tickets/registration canopy, building trebuchets and launching pumpkins for much of the afternoon, creating targets out in the field for the trebuchets to aim at, people running the field (measuring distance during the pumpkin launching competition), and generally helping at all the different stations. It was a great time for our church family and the community.

Baptism and Pig Roast     August 30, 2009
As the final event of a summer filled with fun activities to encourage the church family to build relationships, the annual baptism at the Horst cabin on the Conococheague, followed by a pig roast picnic, was a wonderful time. Six children, two high school students, and one adult were baptized in the river. On an absolutely gorgeous summer day lots of kids played in the water after the baptism, Arnold Horst roasted a pig again, and all those attending enjoyed fellowship and a wonderful pot luck picnic. Here are a few pictures, then go here and click on “Baptism and pig roast 09” to see more.

13th Annual Women’s Retreat     July 17, 2009
On July 17 – 19, 44 ladies attended the 13th annual TSF Women’s Retreat held this year at Rhodes Grove Camp outside of Greencastle, PA. This is the first year the retreat has been held In the summertime.

Some of the activities enjoyed were horseback riding, swimming (though the weather was too cold for most of the ladies), an ice cream social on Friday evening followed by country line dancing lessons (thanks Karen & Tim), massages, and games throughout the weekend. The best part, though, according to the ladies, was the speaker, Sandra Lucas from Montgomery, Alabama, who did a wonderful job of relating to each woman there, no matter her life stage or circumstance. There was so much positive feedback that she is being invited back as the speaker for next year’s retreat planned for the weekend of July 16 – 18, 2010, at the same location.

“It was so neat to see women get together in prayer around the grounds and all the connections going on between women,” commented Jamie Claman, this year’s retreat coordinator.

Thank you to all the women involved in making this such a meaningful experience for everyone. Here are a few pictures, for more go here to access the photo archives.

All-Church Picnic and Talent Show     July 5, 2009
About 200 people attended the second annual All-Church Picnic and Talent Show held on July 5 at Doub’s Woods Park in Hagerstown. After the potluck picnic, nine groups presented their talents in the show. Probably the most unusual talents were Pat Nolan and his dog tricks, and Madison Libby challenging Boh Nichols to a hula hoop contest (Boh lost!). Big thanks to Kim and Richard Hay for the work they put into the picnic. Also to Ken Garber for being a great MC, plus, he won the “guess how many gummy bears there are in this jar” ... 298 exactly.

This event turned out to be just what TSF is all about - a huge mix of generations! There were children from infants into older elementary, middle schoolers, high schoolers, young adults, young couples, young families, and then the rest of us oldies. Lots of fun for everyone who was there. Here are a few pictures, then go here to see more.

High School Winter Retreat     March 16, 2009
On March 6, 7, & 8, 55 students traveled to Camp Hebron, PA for the annual student ministries winter retreat. This year’s speaker was Jason Autry from Lynchburg, VA, with "Calling Out Closer", a band from Redding, PA, leading the group at worship times. The kids had lots of opportunities for fun, even though it didn’t snow, with horseback riding, a high ropes course, and rock wall climbing. Here are a few pictures, then go here to see some more. (thanks, Kendra, for letting us use some of your pics)

Pine Car Derby ’09     March 15, 2009

This year there were 40 cars entered - 31 for the ’15 years old and younger’ class, and 9 for the ’16 years and older class’. It was a great time and various awards were handed out, including: In the ’15 and younger class’ for the Fastest Car, Hayley Kendle won 1st place and Garrett Jakoby won 2nd place; Liam Holtzman’s car was named the Most Unique; and Jessie Claman had the Audience Favorite. In the 16 years and over class, "little" Rusty Claman came away with the award for Most Unique car, and Larry Lane had the Audience Favorite. Here are a few pictures then you can go here to see others.

Kids Bridge - Airport Field Trip     March 15, 2009
On Sunday, March 15, during their regular class time in Session Two, the children who are participating in the Kids Bridge class about planes and flying took a short trip to the airport. Guided by Dave Libby, a pilot who is teaching the class, they were able to tour Curtis Berry’s Cessna and also look through a DC3. A medical helicopter was also there giving them a chance to discuss the kinds of things those vehicles do. Look at these pictures then go here to see a few more.

Kids Bridge - Puppets     December 1, 2008

Fall Service Project     November 1, 2008
On November 1, a group of men from the church traveled to Martinsburg, WV to replace the roof on Linda Ellis’s house.
Linda says...
"I wanted to share the 2 pics that I took and also tell you, and everyone involved, how much I appreciated the men who organized, and came last Saturday to put on my new roof. This was definitely one of the highlights of my life at Tristate Fellowship. Home ownership has its benefits and challenges, and a roof has to be one of the challenges.

Saturday, when everyone showed up and got everything underway, was amazing. And you even did more than the roof. It’s hard to put into words my gratitude for just the heart and soul of this group of men in their ministry to me. Thank you so much. Thanks also to everyone that provided food. Very delicious!

The really neat part is that my neighbors noticed and were very impressed by your ministry and the way you work together for others. I am having so much fun bragging about you, about Tri-state and, mostly about the God we get to serve. Thanks again for everything."

Corn Maze     October 19, 2008
Our first year creating a corn maze for the community to enjoy has been a great success. At least 1400 people, including youth groups from other churches and employees from local businesses, have made their way between the rows of corn stalks during the 5 weekends the maze was open to the public. Many pumpkins, apples, and other items available have been purchased, along with numerous scare crows that have been put together and taken home by families. The maze is part of the Trunk or Treat event held on October 25, and also the scene of the high school group’s "fright night." Here are a few pictures, then go here to see some more...

Baptism and Pig Roast     August 10, 2008
Once again the baptism/pig roast held at the Horst cabin on the Conocheague River was a great event. Twelve folks were baptized with about 200 people witnessing their very meaningful testimonies of faith in Christ. Beth Ostoich said, “My favorite memory of the baptism is T.J. Yoder saying ‘Awwwww — -some’ as soon as Tatyana came up out of the water, closely followed by, ‘Tatyana, was the water cold?’” The Horst clan did a great job on the pig roast and everyone else brought tons of food. Things didn’t wind down till about 7:00 pm, with some planning to stay for a campfire. Here are a few pictures, then go here to see more...

Car/Truck/Motorcycle Show     July 20, 2008
Once again the annual Car/Truck/Motorcycle Show held on July 20 here at the church was a rousing success! Over 400 people wandered the church parking lot checking out the 120+ vehicles entered. Several visitors attended a service and there were lots of questions about our church. And - just like last year - our TSF folks stepped up to the plate by helping out and mingling with our guests, using this event to show God’s love to others. Here are a few pictures, then go here to see more.....

Young Families Picnic     May 26, 2008
The Young Families’ Group at TSF always seems to be up to something! These are pictures of their picnic on Memorial Day at the Ostoich’s home. If you are interested in participating in this group - or just have questions - Paul or Beth Ostoich, or anyone you see in these pictures, would love to talk with you. You can contact either of them at the church.

Over 100 of our church folks have traveled to New Orleans over the past two and one-half years. Nine people from Tri-State traveled there in our latest Katrina relief trip and they had the experience of their lives. For more pictures go here.

Christmas Caroling     December 19, 2007
An outreach event of the Barron small church featured Christmas caroling at the Homewood Retirement Center. The residents were very appreciative of the visit and music - except for Jimmy Lynn’s singing. Activities like this are a big part of what small churches are all about. For more information contact Pastor Tim Lester.

Christmas Production - Four Tickets to Christmas     December 2, 2007
This year’s Christmas production was an encore performance of "Four Tickets to Christmas", originally presented in 2001. This was one of the favorite productions our church family has ever put on, so we decided to present it again. During 5 performances at least 1600 people were able to enjoy this fun show and clearly hear the gospel message. Thanks to all who worked hard to make it a success. Here are a few pictures. For more go here.

Family Bike Ride     May 20, 2007
About 35 adults and children started at Big Pool, MD, for the Rails to Trails ride on Sunday, May 20. At about 2:00 pm, after a prayer for safety, the crew started out with Mark Holtzman sweeping in the last ones for the first half of the ride. Liam Holtzman (3 years old), who rode in the kid’s seat on his dad’s bike, said the ride was nice and smooth - probably because of the nice pavement. He also commented that he should get credit for being the last person because he was behind his father.

Richard Hay was the last man for the second half of the ride. Conner, his son, and Lauren, his daughter, rode just ahead of him. Madison Goodwin survived the entire trip again this year, although I think her legs kept going around for about ˝ hour after the ride was over.

Anita and Wayne Smith, along with Beth Ostoich, waited at the park in Hancock for the riders to arrive while carefully guarding the ice cream bars, push-up pops and water. No ice cream bars were harmed before they were eaten.

It was good to throw the frisbee at the park, though Nigel Dardar really needs to invest in a new frisbee without the dog teeth marks in it.

For about 1/3 of the folks this was the second ride, having participated in last year’s event. The rest of the folks joined us this year for the first time, and we are looking forward to the rest of you coming out next year.

We plan to keep this Scrapbook page updated to report on good things God has done through the people and ministry of Tri-State Fellowship. You can also find pictures of other events on the resources/archives page.
